Dr. Ira S. Chapman
Dr. Ira S. Chapman, 90, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 22, 2011.
Ira graduated from Western Reserve School of Dentistry in 1945. From there he went to active duty, Pacific Theater, on the USNS Hospital Ship Hope. Upon his return, he was at the Naval Air Station in Akron, as Chief of Dental Services until 1949. He was re-activated during the Korean Conflict aboard the same ship. Ira became a selective reserve officer in 1954. He was one of the founding officers of the new Naval Reserve Station in Akron in 1957. He retired in 1968 as a Lieutenant Commander. He continued his career until retirement in private practice dentistry.
Preceded in death by his son, Michael; his first wife, Ruth; and brother, Bill; survivors include his wife, Annette; sons, John (Patricia), Dave (Sherry), Timothy (Leisa), Chris (Barb), Ronald (Cindy), Danny (Kellie); daughter, Terri (George) Hooper; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Frost and Evelyn Fallon; sister-in-law, Alicia (Amburst) Bowers; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. A graveside service will be held Monday, 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Twinsburg.
