General Membership Meeting

May 21, 2009

 

 

The Annual ROTC Recognition Dinner Meeting of the Ohio Western Reserve Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America was held on May 21, 2009 at Anthe’s Prime in New Franklin, OH.  Fifty members and guests were in attendance.

 

 President Dick Calta called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.  Chaplain Tom Sawyer gave the invocation, and 1st Vice President Tony Cookro led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

President Calta invited each awardee to introduce themselves and their guests.  Those in attendance were:

 

Senior ROTC   Joe Gray-Kent State Army ROTC

                         Jennifer Fitzwater—Kent State Air Force ROTC

Junior ROTC   Alyssa Sayre-Navy ROTC, Garfield HS

 John Gillespie—Marine ROTC, East High School

 Cadet Choy—Army ROTC, Kenmore High School

 

Instructors in attendance were:

 

LtCol Ricardo Mitchell, PMS, Kent State University

Major Frank Zink, Garfield HS

Sgt Maj George Anger, East HS

1st Sgt Tri, Kenmore HS

 

After dinner, each cadet was asked to share how the ROTC program has impacted his or her lives.  Each cadet also thanked MOAA for its support.

 

The membership also enjoyed comments by a visiting cadet from the United States Military Academy.

 

Lt Col Mitchell, Professor of Military Science at Kent State University, then gave a very encouraging and informative talk on the money available to ROTC applicants.

 

Dates were given for upcoming events and all were encouraged to attend.

 

President Calta adjourned the meeting at 8PM.
