George W. Kilkenny Jr., 94, of Creston, peacefully entered his heavenly home on Feb. 10, 2018. He was born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Leetonia, Ohio to the late George and Elizabeth (nee McGrath) Kilkenny.
George moved to Medina County in 1956. George was a long-time member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Medina. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Mgrs. O’Keefe K of C Akron, Seville Kiwanis and the past president of the Military Officers’ Association of America. George was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
While attending Miami University, George met the love of his life, Edna (nee Roell). He continued his service, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in the Supply Corps, U.S. Naval Reserve in 1984.
George owned Instructional Supplements, Inc. in Medina providing educational materials for schools throughout Ohio. He was an active volunteer with the Bloodmobile, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The joys of his life were his family and his faith.
George will be greatly missed by his children, Michael (Diane), Brien (Valerie), Margaret (Donald Jefferies, deceased), Matthew (Geri), Elizabeth (David) Muntean and Megan (Robert) Wagner; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
He was preceded in death by Edna, his wife of 63 years; his parents; and his brothers, Daniel and James.
At George’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass is to be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Medina on Friday, March 16 at 11 a.m. Full Military Honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in George’s name to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Medina; Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Litchfield; the Interval Brotherhood Home; Wounded Warrior Project; or the charity of your choice.
