July was the big celebration, but we can go on doing things the rest of the year!
August 1st – Air Force Day
August 4th – U.S. Coast Guard established
August 7th – Vietnam War Started
August 14th Japan Surrendered in 1945
August 16 – National Airborne Day
I attended the Ohio Council of Chapters (OCC) quarterly meeting on Saturday 18 July in Columbus. There is a need for a new council president to take over in January 2027. There is also a need for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice President
Chapter reports: Central Ohio has stabilized their membership count/they gave out $6K in scholarships
Dayton has had luck in personally contacting eligible persons to join.
Cleveland gives new ROTC graduates a book from the National Defense Council on officers duties.
Cincinnati is developing the plans for an Ohio convention of MOAA members in 2027.
Mahoning and Shenango Valley Chapter reported zero replies on postcards mailed out to prospective members.
Ohio Western Reserve hosted the annual JROTC/ROTC banquet and gave out two scholarships worth $1K.
Legislative support through MOAA’s Advocacy in Action (AiA) is the way to make our needs known to Congress.
Major (R) Joseph Mersol of the Mahoning and Shenango Valley Chapter has volunteered to be the legislative
chair for the OCC. He is doing an outstanding job. Expect more information on Ohio bills that need support.
